I want to make a glue to adhere PVC to metal (for example Aluminium or stainless steel).This have to be partly air drying. What kind of resins do you recommend for adhesive? For bonding polymers to metals it is necessary to increase the surface energy of the polymers using suitable modification methods, e.g. surface treatment of polymers with low-temperature plasma at atmospheric (barrier plasma) or reduced pressure (radio-frequency plasma) in an air environment. Surface treatment may also occur by using suitable primers, respectively adhesion promoters. Their application increases the polarity of the polymers and reduces the difference between the polarity of the metal and the polymer in the bonding and increases the strength of the glued joints. For bonding of aluminum (or stainless steel) substrate to polyvinychloride (PVC, hard) the pre-treatment of PVC to higher polarity is necessary. The surface of aluminum to hard PVC can be bonded using rubberized cyanoacrylate adhesive Loctite 480 with Loctite 770 primer (covering the PVC surface before gluing to drying). For bonding stainless steel, sand or corundum blasting is required prior to bonding, degreasing of stainless steel surface and then bonding. Polyurethane adhesives have a nice resistance against water and epoxy-based adhesives have resistance against influence of mineral oils. For bonding of aluminum bar a fine abrasive paper [designed as 1000 or 1200] to remove aluminum oxide from the surface should be used.The abraded aluminum surface must be degreased e.g. with trichlorethylene or dichloromethane. For modification of PVC it is necessary to use primer, resp. an adhesion promoter, which is applied in a thin layer to the surface of the polymer and allowed to dry.
