Michael B. Steinbach, assistant director of the FBI's counterterrorism department, said in testimony on Capitol Hill that one of the challenges for US law enforcement agencies is to work with technology companies to build technology solutions to prevent encryption from being put on top of everything, the Washington Post reported. His testimony goes further than that of FBI director James B. COMEY. COMEY says encryption is a good thing, although he wants the government to be able to bypass it. Steinbach's testimony shows that he believes that enterprises should not put customer data security above national security.
